PET OWNER FAQ’s

Here we answer some common questions asked by pet owners in our hospitals.

Lulu is our early Christmas miracle 🙌🙏

Lulu was rushed to our emergency service on Monday evening unable to breathe
X-rays taken at her local vet showed her windpipe had become extremely narrowed, and her family weren't sure she would even make the 30 minute car journey

Her vet had called ahead and our emergency team were ready and waiting to start immediate resuscitation and diagnostics🚨

Lulu was close to death on arrival - it turned out she had somehow ingested a dangerous rat poison☠️ that had caused massive internal bleeding, one rare side effect being she had bled into her windpipe, closing it almost its entire length

Lulu was put on immediate life support overnight while we started the antidote for the poison, alongside plasma transfusion to stop her bleeding

The next morning, Lulu was weaned off her ventilator but was still very weak, needing one-on-one support from our intensive care team

On Thursday morning, Lulu was so happy to be reunited with her very relieved family, including her baby brother and 6 week old sister 🙌🥰

Lulu still has a few weeks of recovery and treatment ahead until the rat poison fully leaves her system but we are so happy she is home safe and sound 🙏❤️

Massive congratulations to Dr. James Dunne on a superb presentation of his orthopaedic research findings at the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association meeting in Bristol last week 👏👏

This was the BVOA's largest meeting to date, and we are so proud to be able to contribute to the continued advancement of small animal orthopaedics 🙌

Optimising patient safety is at the core of what we do

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Jennifer Daly, American specialist in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, to help implement our new safety initiative in conjunction with US-based startup, Critical Signal 🚨

Errors in healthcare are often rooted in system or process issues. Moving from a blame culture to a systems-based approach helps us identify potential causes and make meaningful improvements

By promoting transparency, open communication and continuous learning, we can refine our workflows and reduce the risk of adverse events 🙏

While human hospitals have recently adopted formal safety systems, the aviation industry has long led the way ✈️🏥

We're committed to ensuring a culture where patient safety is prioritised and we're excited to be at the forefront of this revolution in the veterinary field 🙌

You wouldn't believe that only a few months ago Teddy couldn't walk after he slipped a disc in his back

An emergency scan, spinal surgery and rehab and Teddy is auditioning for Baywatch 😂🐾

4-month-old Golden Retriever George was banking on puppy power after he swallowed a battery whole 🔋😮

Batteries are particularly dangerous as they can dissolve in the stomach, releasing corrosive chemicals that can cause chemical burns and even death

As George's owners had brought him right in, the battery was fully intact and was removed endoscopically by Internal Medicine Specialist, Ferran, and nurse Eimear, along with a surprise sock 🧦

George suffered no ill effects from his shocking⚡️adventure and was quickly 'discharged' feeling AAAmazing

If you even suspect your pet has eaten a battery, don't delay - take charge and call a vet right away 🚨

You'd think butter wouldn't melt 😇

Sully got himself into a spot of bother when he swallowed not one but TWO whole tea towels
Luckily James and Lennart were on hand to sort him out with a Sunday emergency surgery 🚨
Sully was the model patient and was delighted to get back home, just in time for tea ☕️ (no towels this time!)

Here's hoping Sully stays as angelic as he looks😇😈

Oh Maybel we wish you never had to grow up, but we're very glad you get to!

At just 13 weeks old, Maybel presented to our weekend emergency service feeling very unwell and was diagnosed with intussusception

Intussusception is a condition where a part of the intestine spontaneously slides or “telescopes” into the section next to it, blocking food and liquid from passing through. If left untreated, the affected intestine can become devitalised, which is potentially life-threatening

Maybel had emergency surgery to remove a segment of damaged intestine with our on-call surgery team and spent several days being nursed back to health in our ICU 🏥

We were so happy to see her back for her 2-week recheck yesterday, bright as a button and already getting so big 🥹❤️

We believe every pet should be able to access Specialist care if and when they need it

Did you know that we are the only veterinary hospital in Ireland where Specialists in Surgery and Medicine (equivalent to Consultants in human medicine) are available to examine and perform procedures on your pet if they need it, even on nights and weekends? 🌙

Thank you to all veterinary professionals who make sure pets get the care they need, whenever they need it 🙏
