We are so proud of Dr. Brónach Mc Clean, who successfully completed her ECVS surgery residency programme this week 👏👏

Brónach has been with us from the very beginning, from vet student placement to our second intern and then our first ever surgery resident 🙌

Brónach has balanced exemplary clinical and surgical skills with the most compassionate patient care, as well as winning international research awards, publishing outstanding scientific research, and delivering lectures both nationally and internationally

We can't say enough about Brónach as a person- she quickly became a firm part of our family and is beloved by Hugo and Myles for arm wrestles, Friday afternoon dance parties, birthday party chaperoning and vicious nerf battles 😂

We are so happy to announce that Brónach has chosen to continue her career as a fully fledged surgeon at Veterinary Specialists Ireland 🙌🥰

Thank you Brónach for your exceptional dedication to improving pet's lives - we're honored you chose to come on this amazing journey with us🙏

It's Rita's Gotcha Day and we can't remember life without her❤️

1 year ago, Rita was rushed to our emergency service by a Good Samaritan after being found severely injured on the side of the road with a crushed pelvis and internal injuries

She had recently been nursing puppies but no owner could be located and her kennel door simply read Stray RTA - Road Traffic Accident

In spite of suffering extensive injuries, her spirit was strong - we knew she wasn't done yet and we made the decision to take over her care

Her first month involved intensive care, orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation, and with the addition of an I to the RTA on her door she was officially Rita 🙌

Rita hasn't looked back since 💃
She lives her best life with surgeon Brónach, coming to work most days to attend rounds, snooze in the office, help dispose of any leftover chicken and, most importantly, provide moral support to our patients and team 🥰

Sometimes fate puts you in just the right place at just the right time
We wouldn't be without you Rita 💕

Most owners of large and giant breeds are acutely aware of the risk of a twisted stomach, but did you know there is a very simple and minimally-invasive procedure to prevent it before it happens?

Honey and Skye recently visited with surgeon Jennyfer for keyhole (laparoscopic) gastropexy in combination with their keyhole spay 🖥️

This day-procedure is performed using a camera and special suturing device through 3 tiny ports, meaning minimal pain, rapid recovery and, most importantly, peace of mind 🙌

If you have a large-giant breed dog, and especially if they are deep-chested or have a relative who has had twisted stomach, speak to a vet about keyhole gastropexy - it might just be the best decision you make 🙏

🌟Cian has won Student Veterinary Nurse of the Year 🥳 🌟

A massive congratulations to Cian Duffy on this prestigious and very well deserved award, announced at the IVNA Congress this past weekend 👏👏👏

Cian hails from Summerhill and began his career as a patient care assistant at Veterinary Specialists Ireland 🏥

Cian started the veterinary nursing programme in Cork last year and has become an invaluable team member in both Meath and Cork hospitals, so much so that head nurses and mentors Olivia and Mairead occasionally throw down over his schedule 😂

We are so proud of Cian's achievement and outstanding career progression - the future is incredibly bright indeed 🙌

There wasn't a dry eye as Arthur was reunited with his family after surgery to repair his shattered leg 🥹

Arthur's elbow joint had spontaneously fractured into multiple pieces due to an underlying bone weakness. This condition, humeral intracondylar fissure or HIF, is not uncommon in Cocker and Springer Spaniels, particularly in Ireland and the UK 🐕‍🦺

Repairing this complex fracture is extremely difficult but under the care of Specialist surgeon, Susan, Arthur's elbow was reconstructed beautifully 🙏

Arthur’s journey isn’t over yet—as well as rest and rehabilitation to help his bones to heal, he will likely need another surgery to protect his other elbow from a similar fracture in the future

With the support of his very loving family, we will have this very good boy back chasing his ball in no time 🙌 🎾
