🌟Cian has won Student Veterinary Nurse of the Year 🥳 🌟
A massive congratulations to Cian Duffy on this prestigious and very well deserved award, announced at the IVNA Congress this past weekend 👏👏👏
Cian hails from Summerhill and began his career as a patient care assistant at Veterinary Specialists Ireland 🏥
Cian started the veterinary nursing programme in Cork last year and has become an invaluable team member in both Meath and Cork hospitals, so much so that head nurses and mentors Olivia and Mairead occasionally throw down over his schedule 😂
We are so proud of Cian's achievement and outstanding career progression - the future is incredibly bright indeed 🙌

Bryce gave the biggest hugs after his platelet-rich plasma injection 🥰
Bryce injured a tendon to a back toe several weeks ago, leaving his toe stuck in a abnormal position
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) was made from Bryce's blood, concentrating healing growth factors into a small aliquot that was injected directly into the damaged tendon 💉
Bryce was a toe-tally awesome patient, showing an excellent response to his first injection, and a second injection was performed to help complete healing 🙌
Whilst not a 'cure-all', regenerative medicine using platelet-rich plasma and/or stem cells to help the body heal can be very useful in some orthopaedic conditions, including arthritis and damaged tendons and ligaments

Penny played peekaboo in ICU as we anxiously monitored her recovery from major emergency abdominal surgery 🫣
Penny presented very unwell to our emergency service last weekend and was diagnosed on CT scan with mesenteric torsion or twisted gut, a condition that left untreated is rapidly fatal
Penny had emergency abdominal surgery with our Specialist surgeons and a whopping 1.5 metres of dead small bowel was removed and the healthy bowel sewn back together
Penny made an astonishing recovery and in true Golden Retriever style made best friends with our whole team 🦮🥰
It was bittersweet to say goodbye as she was reunited with her very relieved family on Friday🙏
If your pet shows symptoms of acute abdominal pain, swelling, bloating, retching or vomiting, consult a vet as an emergency - it could be a matter of life and death 🚨
